The collaboration between shipyard Alloy Yachts and Dubois naval architects has once again produced an absolutely gorgeous-looking yacht that also manages to sail like a dream. And if that wasn’t enough, she is a luxurious and well-thought-out charter superyacht. There are some clever design solutions to get around the compromises often necessary when combing the attributes of a fast sailing yacht with the levels of opulence expected from a superyacht. Her foredeck tender store converts into a freshwater Jacuzzi once the tender is launched at anchor, sun pads are laid out to surround the pool… The main deck cockpit is shaded by the flybridge and is flanked with retractable glass windows, so you can escape the wind or heat if needed, but still enjoy the breeze once sailing. The deck saloon is low and sleek, barely troubling Q’s fine lines from the outside, but inside there is an abundance of light and 360° views. This sense of bright airiness is reinforced by the very pale cream sofas and carpet, with pale wood panelling accented with some dark stripe-grained high-gloss trim. The sense of space is enhanced by a mainly transparent divide with the dining area forward, which itself is just shielded from the bridge. Open tread stairs head below to the bright guest lobby, with beautiful swirling fish school art and the design theme continues into the cabins. The generous master suite is pale and bright with bold use of the stripe-grained wood to add real drama. With two good-sized doubles and two twins each with an additional berth, the layout is also very practical when you have friends and family to accommodate. Q is a fantastic all-rounder – a superb superyacht with the heart of a racing sailor.
